What's Inside: Sprouting Number Sense

Lesson 1: Place Value to the Millions

This is the lesson that makes everything after it possible. So many kids can say a big number out loud but freeze when asked to write it, or read a written number and have no idea what it actually says. Lesson 1 builds that bridge — word to number, number to word — so your kids walk away truly understanding what each digit is worth, not just where it sits.

Lesson 2: Expanded Notation

Once place value is solid, this lesson takes it further: breaking numbers apart to show exactly what each digit contributes. It's the same understanding from Lesson 1, stretched and solidified until it's second nature.

Lesson 3: Rounding & Estimating

With real place value understanding in place, rounding stops being a memorized trick ("find the number, look next door, round up or stay") and becomes something kids can reason through because they actually know what they're rounding to.

Five pieces doesn't mean five requirements. You know your kid better than any worksheet ever will, so if the straightforward worksheet is the win today, skip the fun one. If they need the silly version to get through it without a fight, skip the straightforward one. Use the pieces that work for your crew, in whatever order gets you there. That's not cutting corners. That's just good teaching.
